Love Your Body, Forgive Your "Self" By: Laura Turner

This may sound a bit odd coming from me, but I believe that regardless of what you eat - how many times each week you exercise or what particular diet you decide to try - if you do not have your inner life in order, it will be difficult to be at peace with yourself and your body.

In discussing ways to love your body, therefore, it is important to look at ways we can have peace with ourselves. Moreover, in this article, we will discuss an idea you may not have considered: forgiveness.

The Past Is The Past, Let It Go:

The most important process we can undertake for our health and well being is to make a conscious effort not to leave negative energy embedded in the past. In effort to move into present time, and be at one with our own body, it becomes essential to let go of all the hurts and struggles that have led us to this moment. There is only one road to this state of oneness, however: The act of letting go.

As it turns out, I'm not the only one who stands by the belief system of releasing the past in effort to improve the health of our minds, as well as our body and spirit. Carolyn Myss in her healing lecture series: Why People Don't Heal, makes the claim that forgiveness is the #1 way to move forward in health. And she can back it up. She has used the healing process of letting go to transform people from near death to glowing health. With this in mind then, ask yourself: Is there anyone or anything from my past which prevents me from moving forward? Said differently: is there something in your past that's holding you back?

Learn To Forgive Others, The Process:

This brings us to the next step in our progress of releasing the past: learning to forgive others. Keep in mind, most often others say and do things as a result of how they are feeling about themselves. In most cases, whether they are aware of it or not, unhealthy individuals inflict their wounds upon us to salve their own pain. This can no longer affect us if we make a full effort to do as Don Miguel Ruiz says in his book The Four Agreements, and "not take things personally." When we do take things personally, we really could gather up a lifetime of emotional baggage.

As it pertains to body image and self-esteem, however, is there anyone you need to forgive? Has someone knowingly or unknowingly inflicted a negative body view onto you? Here's my personal example: When I was in high school, I had a "friend" who was popular, pretty and blonde. As an introvert and troubled youth, I took everything most personally. Imagine my emotional baggage when any time I would so much as mention my interest in a particular boy, she'd make sure she would go out of her way to get his interest.

Needless to say our friendship wasn't long term. And later I learned she was living in an unstable home. Yet, when I was younger, her actions just plain hurt my feelings and gave me a negative self image. Now I realize my insecurities at the time were my wounds to heal, and once I'd forgiven her and not taken her actions personally, I could move forward without holding on to past insecurity.

Learn To Live In the Present, An Exercise:

When we can learn to let go of the past and live fully in the present, we are also growing. After all, how could we grow if we have negative energy lodged in the past? Moreover, there are many other active ways to learn to live in the present. Begin the process by taking a current inventory of your body. I like to do this by using my journal (you do have a journal, don't you?)

Here's how it works:

• Take a scan of your body. First take body part by body part and make a note of what you are happy about. Ask yourself: What do I love about me? At first this may seem awkward, but I cannot stress the importance of taking time to spend time with your self and learning to know "you."

• After you've noted all the positive aspects of your self, make note of those parts you'd like to change. Keep in mind your boundaries - are these changes within your control? If so, make notes to yourself as to how you may go about making a change for the better. If changes are out of your control - take time every day to consciously send love to those parts of your body. When ever possible, tell your mind that you accept your body and your self for who you are, right now.

• When you've finished, take a look at your list. What can you do right now that would make you love a part of yourself? Consider this your permission slip: Today take time to do something good for yourself. Better yet, walk to the phone right now and make an appointment to do something for your self. My favorite self-love activities? Here's a couple suggestions. Ladies: A manicure or pedicure? Gentlemen: A massage?

Today, take time to focus on all of your positive qualities. Make an effort to forgive the past and move into the present moment. Prepare to grow!

Angels By Your Side

A heavenly spirit assigned by God to watch over each of us during our lives. The doctrine of angels is part of the Church's tradition. The role of the guardian angel is both to guide us to good thoughts, work and words, and to preserve us from evil. Psalm 91: 10-12...

Angels are emanations of God, just as sunbeams are to the sun. From the moment of birth, there is an angel waiting to take its place by our side. Do they hear our prayers? Do they feel what we feel?

Angels are around us. They surround us. If we learn to seek their assistance, gladly they will come to our aid. Angels are a link between our human realm and the divine. Angels do not belong to any particular religious belief. We can not see them, but we can feel the energy that pervades in their presence.

Angels are purely spiritual beings with no physical form. When they were created, God granted them free will, immortality and divine intelligence. Their task is to sustain the universe.

The angels are free from the restrictions of time and space. They can be anywhere at anytime because they are multi- dimensional. They are not constrained nor restrained by time and space. It is believed that angels travel faster than the speed of light.

Angels are trusted with the task of looking after the whole of creation; from the animal kingdom, the plants and minerals, the planets, the earth, the wind, and stars. To every living creature, there is an angelic presence.

Angels are fascinated with man’s ability to invent and to create equipment, machinery, gadgets and toys to meet man’s needs and also for pleasure.

When we open ourselves to the angelic realm, we open ourselves to deeper spirituality and inner development. Communication with angels encourages us to develop intuitively in order to be able to decode their message. Meditation helps us to navigate through the negative blocks that hinder our inner development and our peace of mind. Meditation helps us find the path to love and joy, which is the ultimate message the angels wish to give us.

In our cluttered and harried world, we need a moment of quiet and go deep within ourselves. This is the best time to connect with the angels. They inspire us to reach for a higher level of love, peace, harmony and align ourselves with the Divine. Angels can only help us if we ask them. This does not mean that they will deny us help in moments of great need. Think of a time when you did something without thinking that actually saved you. There was an angel by your side!

Angels bring us peace and comfort. When they reach out to us, we feel the divine within us. It is a reminder that our physical selves are sacred temples of the divinity we share with our Creator.

Rudolf Steiner, a German philosopher and scientist, had a deep love and understanding of angels. According to him, angels communicate with us through images, thus we need to develop our imagination and intuition to be able to decode angelic messages.

We need to acknowledge their presence around us. Angels help us to make better choices, so that our words, thoughts and actions are in alignment with our higher selves and best interest without compromise. Angels assist us to find our deeper selves and be able to express it through creative pursuits, help us feel the joys of love, enjoy the serenity that comes with inner peace.

With a calmer state of mind, problems are not as overwhelming. We can see through the maze with clarity. Life flows.

Angels are there for us when we feel alone. Angels are there when there is no one to reach out to. Call out to an angel who’ll be there to give comfort and solace.

At times when danger is imminent, an angel is there to warn us, to protect us and keep us safe. There is always an angel by our side.

Angels Spiritual Mystery. Do They Exist?

Many persons have wondered if angels truly exist and which is their nature. We will try now, to understand this topic. The best known and evident foundation, of course, is that the angel is a messenger of God, who comes to fulfill an specific work; and who has the capacity and power to do it. We can say that many persons have experienced angelical interventions in their lives and that is the reason that we are going to understand somewhat what this means and also how is an angel, about his feelings, temperament and motivation.

The angel, by conviction, is an example of the most tender and careful love that God profess to his creatures. And that is the reason that the angel has an spiritual value, which is in turn, his strength. Every angel has a moral and ethical principle ingrained and he is full of wisdom, because he naturally knows what is the fear of God, and this does not mean fear, but the understanding of the consequences that come when separating from God. Thus, the angel has in himself the dynamic and he is in the fundamental principle of the will of God and how this will must be applied.

The angels live in the law of God but in its most perfect and purest manifestation. By example, every angel is the guardian of faith. And how is this? It is through the transmission of different devotions to the virtues of the spirit. This is transmitted through his spiritual power given by God and transmitted by him to hundreds of persons, who seek the real understanding of faith. Thus, he transmits an special grace to the sincere students and to the persons who practice the spiritual truth, who little by little, will enter the revelation of the spiritual mysteries.

By example: The person begins to discover an spiritual mystery by its components; such as: About faith: Mercy is necessarily represented in faith. Surrender is necessarily represented in faith. Devotion and spiritual study are represented in faith and they are strengthened in service and prayer. The angel is then, the tender and dedicated divine wisdom who gives orientation to the heart and warns about the dangers of temptation. The angel lives, of course, in a different reality than man's reality; his time and space and the purpose of life are different than the ones of man. That is why, the angel possess patience and understanding but he never permits the error, he warns, points and condemns it, but certainly in a constructive way, that also permits man to have a consideration of his true spiritual state.

The angel is an spiritual companion for the spiritual devotee, not because he does the work for him but because by virtue of prayer, he plants sparkles of spiritual light in the heart and thought, that permits man, to improve his reflections, his heart and his service. Something very important and necessary to point out is that the angel contributes strength and spiritual happiness, when man is going through difficult and constructive processes, then, the angel knows how to give man that little impulse that permits the equilibrium, and man feels the advice in his heart. It is necessary to say that the divine messenger or angel, acts like the one who sows. And then is up to man, to care, protect and use that information as protection; in other words, the angel gives the example, shows the way and gives the warning, he tells man about his alternatives, which the person will begin to discover in his inner world.

The angel is a giver and benefactor, who pours spiritual jewels but very few can see this, not because they do not want to, but to see the work of the spirit, requires purity of heart. We find in the angel, loyalty, ethics, morality, compassion, wisdom, love and spiritual dignity. But, let's point out that the angel is a different species than man; and we could think that the angel by not being held to the pressure and to the material existence or to its seduction.

We could say that the ethics of the angel is not as complex, because he is so pure that he is not subject to any temptation; but the angel does know the dynamics of the world. His natural habitat is the spiritual state, called heaven. The angel comes to earth to be of service to the spiritual will, who justly takes care of man in the form of warnings and inspirational science. The angel is present in the moments of the greatest consecration of Love, in the moments of fragility, even of pain, because he knows man, he loves him and he has the function of being a beacon of light in the life of the spiritual seeker.

Your Pets and Your Guardian Angel

If you are like most people, you consider your pets to be part of your family. You love them and receive much love in return, and you distress when they become ill or lost for even a short time. Below I’m going to give you some unique suggestions on lowering your stress level when events seem to be worrisome, or even in crises situations, with those lovable family members.

About thirteen years ago, in reading spiritual articles and books, I kept noticing the word “benevolent” used in stories about angels and their relationship to us. As this is not a commonly used word in the English language, it was quite noticeable to me. One day I read a suggestion to request benevolent outcomes for events in your life. I decided to try it out, and was amazed how PERFECTLY it worked for everything, from small requests such as a parking spot next to a busy restaurant or a seat on the subway to the really important situations in my business and personal life. After having made these requests between 10,000 and 15,000 times over the years, I am firmly convinced that our Guardian Angels are there to assist us in living more gentle lives. We just have to ask.

So how do we utilize these requests with our pets? As an example, we found one of my dogs, Sandy, at a local animal shelter. They had discovered her on the side of a busy highway. A beagle-dachshund mix, she will roam the neighborhood if we accidentally leave the gate open, which certainly at the very least could mean the permanent loss of a sweet, lovable dog. When this happens, I have immediately requested out loud, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for finding Sandy safe and sound. Thank you.” You always thank your Guardian Angel and make these requests with emotion, as that works best.

We always find her, although one time some workmen were holding her in a house being remodeled down the street from us. When they saw us searching the grounds of the house for the third time (I “felt” that she was nearby), she suddenly appeared. Another time she ran across four lanes of traffic on a busy street that we live next to. Most of the time we can find her socializing with other dogs within a block radius. Requesting a Benevolent Outcome always puts me at ease, as I KNOW that I’m going to find her. It takes the stress and worry away.

I will explain how to take the stress and worry out of caring for a sick pet below, but first let’s back up a little. When it’s time to add a pet into your family, you say, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for finding the perfect pet for our family. Thank you.” If you have definitely decided upon a dog, cat, or other animal or bird, you can be specific in your request, but if you have not decided, let your Guardian Angel and the universe assist you.

It works this way. Perhaps when you go to an animal shelter, possibly one of the attendants there points out a pet that just arrived that morning, even just a few minutes before you arrived. Or you will just be drawn to one particular animal that in your heart you know is the perfect companion for your family. Possibly even before you go out searching one of your friends calls and says their dog or cat just had a litter of puppies or kittens. They ask if you would be interested in coming over to take a look at them. Your Guardian Angel works in amazing ways, and I can assure you it’s FUN to sit back and see how the pieces of the puzzle come together when you make requests for MBO’s (as I call them). Just remember that requesting Benevolent Outcomes has to be benevolent for all concerned.

Next, you have to choose the right food for your new companion. There are so many foods on the market today that I think it’s best to request a Benevolent Outcome for choosing the right food for your pet. Even your vet can make a mistake in recommending a certain brand. Let yourself be guided in choosing the right formula and the right amount to feed your pet. And don’t forget to request a MBO when choosing vitamins to help keep your pet healthy and live a long life.

When your pet is sick, that can really cause you to be concerned and worry for their welfare. One lady that had previously read my articles on requesting Benevolent Outcomes told me how her cat was recently in distress; so she took her cat to the veterinarian and requested a MBO that the cat would be fine. She was greatly relieved to be told by the vet that it was an easy problem to treat.

Your pets normally are quite afraid of their trips to the veterinarian. I always say, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for our (pet’s name) visit to the vet.” One of our dogs is so afraid of going to a vet (after being given up twice by other families) that I have to leave his leash off until we are ready to go inside. One of our previous female dogs had a parvo type disease that is fatal 99 out of 100 times. We requested a Benevolent Outcome for her recovery, and then had the “inspiration” to start feeding her large amounts of the same vitamin E we took for our health. Her blood count slowly increased to the point where she completely recovered.

I’m going to give you something else that works when you see an animal on TV that has been injured, tortured, or trapped. If you love animals (and you wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t) you feel quite frustrated that you can’t help that animal in person. You can do something. You can say out loud, “I ask that any and all beings come to the aid of this animal and comfort, aid, and assist this animal in any and all ways. Thank you.” These requests are not acted upon by your Guardian Angel, but by other Angelic beings, and INSTANTLY. You do not limit the request to humans, as it could be other animals or Angelic beings that actually physically assist that animal in distress. You use the word “ask” instead of “request” as that is a more general request. Then you will feel better that at least you did what you could to aid that animal. This confidence will be higher if you have been previously requesting Benevolent Outcomes in your life, so you know from direct experience and knowledge that making these requests really work!

So, a Most Benevolent Outcome for you life with those loving companions who do so much to make our lives more enjoyable! Your life with them will be much less stressful and worry-free when you request Benevolent Outcomes from the time that you wish to add them to your family and all through their lives with you. I wish you all a Good Life!

Traveling With Your Guardian Angel

’ve traveled a lot for both business and pleasure over the years, and have encountered my share of airplane delays, lost luggage, and even sports injuries on these trips. Besides my normal reading of my industry “trades,” I like to read a lot of spiritual literature. About ten years ago, I kept noticing the word “benevolent” used in stories about Angels. As this is not a commonly used word in the English language, it was quite noticeable to me.

One day I read the suggestion to request benevolent outcomes for events in your life. I decided to try it out, and was amazed how PERFECTLY it worked for everything, from small requests such as a parking spot next to a busy restaurant or a seat on the subway in Paris to the really important negotiations in my business. After having made these requests between 10,000 and 15,000 times over the years, I am firmly convinced that our Guardian Angels are there to assist us in living more gentle lives. We just have to ask.

So when do you make these requests? I request Most Benevolent Outcomes (MBO’s as I call them) for everything. While packing for a trip, I’ll say, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for remembering everything I need to take on my trip. Thank you.” When it comes time to go to the airport, I request a Benevolent Outcome for the drive to the airport in safety and with no delays. How many people have you heard about that have missed a flight because of a traffic jam or wreck on the freeway?

At the airport, I’ll say, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome that my bags arrive safely and on time. Thank you.” I always say “thank you” to my Guardian Angel. David in St. Louis emailed to tell me he requested a Benevolent Outcome for making it through the Security check line with no problems (nothing can slow you down more than being “randomly” chosen for a full search). There were two lines, one that traversed back and forth and the other for flight personnel. Just as the person ahead of him was directed into the maze, the gatekeeper closed off that path and let David be the first person to pass through the fast-path route through security. As he said, “that was cool!"

David also mentioned that he likes to request MBO’s for meeting interesting people on the plane. I tried that out recently on a business trip back from Washington DC, and after a gentleman offered to trade seats with a young lady sitting next to me so she could sit with her friend, he turned out to be a buyer that I had not seen at the market. I was able to give him some information, which will result in a sale. That’s how Benevolent Outcomes work. It is so much fun to see how your Guardian Angel makes these things happen!

Last summer my wife and I went to a conference in Mt. Shasta, California—a really beautiful place. On our way back to the Sacramento Airport, I requested a MBO for a safe and problem free drive. On the car radio, there was a news bulletin that the California Highway Patrol was getting tough on Interstate 5 and would be ticketing anyone barely over the speed limit. As we were driving along, I had passed several slower moving cars when an oversized pickup came up behind me. I decided to let him pass, although there was still another car to pass ahead of me. As he passed, I started to move out again to pass the car when suddenly out of the bushes in the median roared a CHIP’s patrol car with lights blinking. I jumped back in line and watched as the pulled over the pickup. That could have been me. I have found over time that after requesting a MBO for a drive, the highway patrol cars are either turning off, going the other direction, or have just pulled someone over as I pass by.

One time I rented a car in Nice, France for the 20-minute drive to Cannes on a freeway. Naturally I requested a MBO for the drive. A few minutes into the drive a small car passed by me at a speed of approximately 90 miles an hour. About 100 yards up the road, he tried to weave in and out of traffic, lost control, spun out and bounced off the guardrail ending up straddled across two of the three lanes of traffic. Had I been five seconds earlier, I would have been in danger of being involved. I was able to slow down and creep by the car on the far right lane.

In Milan one night, I had eaten dinner on one of the downtown “walking streets.” After dinner, I walked out of that area to a busy boulevard, thinking I would easily find a taxi back to my hotel. All the taxis that passed were full, so after five minutes, I requested a Benevolent Outcome for a taxi. Before the words were completely out of my mouth, a taxi turned right in front of me, I signaled to him, and off we went to the hotel.

The Milan airport is a long drive outside the city, so I checked with the hotel concierge to see if I could share a taxi for the very early drive to the airport. He had no one scheduled at 5:00 am in the morning, so I requested a MBO for someone to share my taxi. The next morning when I checked out of the hotel there were no people in sight, so I was resigned to paying for an expensive taxi, when in walked five or six doctors from the Mayo Clinic that had been in Milan for a cancer conference. They had hired a mini-bus to take them to the airport and invited me to join them, at no charge!

Jean from Ontario, Canada emailed to tell me she was in Seattle on vacation. She was exploring the city via their “excellent” bus service. She asked for a Benevolent Outcome for her ride downtown. As the driver approached his stop in front of the Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle, a parcel delivery truck suddenly stopped in front of him. The bus driver had been looking at the bus stop to see if any passengers were waiting. “Something” told him to look ahead, and he did, bringing the bus safely to a stop within inches of the truck. No one was injured, and Jean was able to joke with the driver about all the paper work he had just avoided!

What are some other Most Benevolent Outcomes (MBO’s) you can request while traveling?

· Request a MBO for your passport to be delivered on time;
· Request a MBO for getting the best room in a hotel for your preferences;
· Request a MBO if you are having to “standby” for a flight that’s quite full;
· Request a MBO for seats on busy subways, buses, or trains;
· Request a MBO when you are in dangerous places for your safety;
· Request a MBO each time you take part in a sport, such as skiing, on a trip;
· Request a MBO for being seated at the perfect table on a cruise to meet interesting people;
· Request a MBO for pleasant weather conditions for your excursions.

There are few rules for requesting Benevolent Outcomes. You must say your request out loud, or you must write it, as we are in a physical world. Just thinking it doesn’t work nearly as well. Request a MBO with emotion. They work better that way. Say “thank you” when you make the request, and a couple of “thank yous” when your request is answered. Request Benevolent Outcomes often, so they become a habit. Otherwise you’ll forget to request them on your trip.

Guardian Angels Conversations

Six years ago I discovered that I could converse with “spirit” as it’s called. This is something you can do too if you don’t mind putting in the time and effort, which I’ll explain below.

The first person I communicated with was an American Indian Shaman living in the western United States in the 1600’s. He explained that I was a Shaman also living at that time and that I was to reintroduce people to “The Gentle Way.” This became the title of my first book on teaching people a simple, yet very powerful spiritual tool to use—requesting Most Benevolent Outcomes (MBO’s). I had been requesting MBO’s for several years, but I did not understand how powerful they are. I only cared that they worked PERFECTLY, and I had never been able to say that about any of the other modalities I had tried—law of attraction, power of positive thinking, etc.

Eventually I began communicating each time with my own Guardian Angel. Naturally I asked what name to call him. He explained that our vocal chords are not made to pronounce angelic names, and we would simply be frustrated if we tried. He said, “Tom, we’re not too big on names here, so you can call me Tom, Dick, or Harry, but Tom might be a little confusing in your meditations.” So in my case I thought about it for a few days and was “inspired” one day to begin calling him Theo.

So here’s your first suggestion. Say out loud, “Guardian Angel, what name should I call you?” You may immediately receive a name in your mind, or it may take a few days, as it did me.

The second suggestion is to start requesting MBO’s. Theo told me that this is the FIRST big step in learning to co-create with spirit! Our goal is to become “Junior Creators in Training.” So begin with the mundane requests such as, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for a parking place in front of ________, thank you!” You’ll receive immediate feedback when these requests work, before you begin requesting MBO’s for ones that can take months or even a year to manifest, such as requests for the PERFECT job, home, or mate. Theo humorously says humans are impatient.

Theo tells me that there are a little over one million Guardian Angels (GA’s) handling all the souls having earth lives, and all of our lives on earth are happening at the same time, as time is an illusion for us. That’s why I could converse with the Shaman living in the 1600’s. I have learned from him that all of these GA’s are “golden light beings,” with an enormous amount of experience and knowledge. They prefer to be called “Servants of the Creator,” but no one would know what I was talking about, so GA’s they are. Almost all of our GA’s were created by other creators (Theo says there are billions of other creators and creations) and were attracted to do this work.

They do it with great love and joy, but Theo says we must request assistance, as our souls have instructed them to only assist if we ask, or if our lives are in danger and our soul contracts are to live to an older age. So when you request MBO’s you become more aware, and most importantly, your vibrational level begins to increase! Theo says requesting MBO’s is the simplest way to raise your vibrational level, and with all the benefits that come with your GA assisting in manifesting your requests.

There are so many questions you can ask your own GA. I’ve learned that our souls created fragments of itself to have these lives on earth, while our souls are having hundreds of thousands of other lives across this universe. Theo says there is an average of six to twelve soul fragments in a “soul cluster,” and each one of these fragments is created at different frequency levels and have different interests, so we are not all “peas in a pod.” Each one of these soul fragments has an average of 600 to 800 lives on earth. When I asked why such a large range of lives, he says that some souls wish to experience all the earth has to offer in as short a time as possible, and other souls wish to spread out the experiences over more lives.

So contacting your own GA can be quite easy if you already meditate. Instead of going into a deep meditation, just stay in the higher Alpha state instead of the deeper Theta level. Then you just say, “Guardian Angel, are you there?” You’ll receive a response where it seems you are mentally answering your own question, but continue with a simple question or two. Theo says they send us “thought packet” answers that are filtered from our right brain to the left according to our knowledge, beliefs, and education. And that’s why you can communicate with any beings in the universe, as you don’t have to speak their language.

If you don’t mediate, don’t fret. There are many meditation CD’s and MP3’s out there. I recommend Spirit Guides by Dick Sutphen, but chose what feels best to you. I do highly recommend that you say, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for receiving these messages perfectly, thank you!” That and surrounding yourself with white light will give you protection to only speak with your own GA.

Communicating with your own Guardian Angel, for most us anyway, takes some work, but the results will amaze you. You can write the answers, say them out loud and record, or as I do type the answers on your computer. Have all your questions listed on a pad and open your eyes to read each one as you go. Remember that you’re in only a light Alpha state, then PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, as Theo told me over and over again. Have a most benevolent experience!

Supercharging Your Affirmations

In a previous article, I revealed a simple process for writing your own powerful affirmations. I discussed the importance of getting clear about your existing beliefs, writing affirmations to replace those old beliefs with new empowering ones, writing affirmations in the present tense, the importance of consistent repetition, and the necessity of believing in the words you're saying.

Today I'd like to share a simple three-step process that can greatly increase the power and effectiveness of any affirmations you use (whether you've written them yourself or use someone else's).

In the movie "The Secret," Cathy Goodman shares her personal experience in beating breast cancer without chemotherapy or radiation. She says, "I truly believed in my heart, with my strong faith, that I was already healed. Each day I would say, 'Thank you for my healing.' On and on and on I went, 'Thank you for my healing.' I believed in my heart that I was healed. I saw myself as if cancer was never in my body." Cathy's story is astounding to say the least, and her husband, Morris Goodman, has an amazing healing story of his own. (Learn more about them at http://www.themiracleman.org)

However, for the purposes of this article, I would like to concentrate more on the phrase Cathy used to heal her body of cancer. "Thank you for my healing" is such a simple phrase, but it holds tremendous power! There are three key reasons why, and they are the same simple steps you can use to literally supercharge the effectiveness of any affirmation:

1) Gratitude. Giving thanks for something automatically puts us into a state of allowing and receiving. It puts us in a state of non-resistance with the Universe. This is powerful enough when we're giving thanks for something we already have (because it attracts more things to be grateful for), but when we do it with something we want, the power is magnified drastically! Why? Because we are putting our full faith into the belief that what we desire will come to be in the physical realm. As I've mentioned in previous articles, a strong belief that something is true will most definitely bring it forth into reality! Notice that Cathy didn't say, "Thank you for the healing that is on the way," or, "Thank you for my upcoming healing," or, "I know I will be healed, thank you." She said simply, "Thank you for my healing," with full faith that she was ALREADY healed. Can you sense the power in that sentiment?

2) Affirming the process. Though Cathy affirmed she was already healed, notice that the language she used puts the emphasis on the process of healing. She didn't say, "I am healed," she used the form of the word that implies a transition in progress: heal-ing. This may seem like a contradiction, but it's the perfect combination of focus to achieve the desired result.

Though we put our full faith into believing our desire has already manifested, choosing words that support the PROCESS of manifestation can be easier for us to believe. Why? Sometimes the jump from our current reality to the new reality we desire can be too big of a leap to make and still be believable. Believing that something is in progress seems like a smaller mental leap than trying to force ourselves to believe it's already a done deal.

To demonstrate this point, consider the difference in feeling you get from these two affirmations:

- I am a perfect size 5.

- My body is becoming slimmer and lighter every day.

If you don't wear a size 5, stating an affirmation that you do is largely ineffective, simply because you know it's not true. With enough forceful repetition you might be able to convince yourself and bring forth such a reality, but you would have to overcome plenty of inner resistance first.

The second affirmation is much more believable, isn't it? It causes feelings of excitement and pleasure because you can visualize your body shrinking in size, clothing becoming baggy, and smaller sizes looming in the near future. The mental state this affirmation activates is perfect for attracting the desired result.

3) Focus ONLY on what you WANT. Finally, the phrase, "thank you for my healing" is powerful because of the absence of something. Notice that cancer isn't mentioned anywhere in this affirmation. Though breast cancer was certainly Cathy's reality at that moment in time, she didn't emphasize or reinforce it. She didn't say, "Thank you for healing my cancer." Because that would have been affirming that cancer existed in the first place! With affirmations, it is crucial to focus ONLY on what you want, not what you DON'T want. Likewise, with the two example affirmations above, notice I didn't mention "losing weight" or "burning fat". Fat doesn't exist in the mind of someone who is thinking slender thoughts.

Can you see how these three simple steps will add power to your affirmations? If you're skeptical, try it yourself and see! Just to get you started, here are some more examples:

"Thank you for my growing abundance."

"Thank you for my considerate and romantic spouse."

"Thank you for my successful business."

"Thank you for healing my eyesight."

"Thank you for returning me to a perfect state of health and vitality."

"Thank you for the happiness and joy I experience every day."

"Thank you for the many blessings I continuously receive."

"Thank you for freeing me, mind body and spirit." (This one is especially good for addictions!)

As you recite your affirmations, allow yourself to really FEEL the immense gratitude your words convey. Conjure up an image in your mind of your desired circumstances already formed and actualized. See yourself in the midst of these new circumstances, shouting your joy and thanksgiving to the Universe. The more you can do this, the more power your affirmations will contain, and the more quickly your chosen outcome will manifest.

The Beginners Guild to Affirmations

Imagine what would happen if you approached someone and insulted them.

“I hate you! You're ugly! No one likes you! You're a really miserable person!”

Well, apart from receiving a slap on the face or punch on the nose, you're also quite likely to hurt their feelings.

What about saying something positive? Perhaps something like this:

“You are so beautiful. You're a really great person and a wonderful friend.”

Would you agree that this statement should produce a very different result? It will empower the recipient. It builds their self-esteem and feeling of self-worth.

Let's change the scenario slightly. In this case consider how you would feel if someone else approached you with the negative statement. Would you likely be hurt? I imagine so. Now consider your feelings if someone approached you with the positive statement. How wonderful would that feel?

Words are incredibly powerful! There is no truth at all to the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” Negative words cut deeply, creating wounds that can last a lifetime. Positive words on the other hand have the power to heal those wounds, and rebuild you better than ever before.

Let's change the scenario again. This time, imagine you're standing in front of a mirror and repeating a negative statement to yourself over and over again. “I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!” How does this feel? Not very nice, is it? How about a positive statement? “You are so beautiful! You are so beautiful! You are so beautiful!” Now, that's much better.

I know what you’re thinking though. You wouldn't do that to yourself, would you? You wouldn't expose yourself to such negativity on purpose.

Well, I've got news for you. Your subconscious mind is already exposing you to tens of thousands of thoughts per day. And if you’re not already totally happy and completely successful, then your thoughts are most likely negative.

Take notice of your thoughts for the next 24 hours. If you're like most people, you'll be quite shocked at the negativity that comes from your subconscious mind.

And that, my friends, is affirmations at work!

An affirmation is simply a statement which you of the repeat to yourself over and over again. The statement may be positive, in which case it empowers you, or it may be negative, in which case it hurts.

Whether you like it or not, you are currently using affirmations. Unfortunately though, you’re not controlling the process and your subconscious mind is subjecting you to a constant barrage of negativity. Negative statement after negative statement after negative statement!

Years of negative thoughts have led you to have negative beliefs about yourself and your life. These negative beliefs led to negative habits. And these negative habits are what led you to the life you live now.

So if you're not totally happy with your life, what can you do about it?

It's really quite simple. You need to take conscious control of your thought process, and replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.

Conscious repetition of positive affirmations will in time lead to your subconscious mind also producing positive and empowering thoughts. These positive thoughts will lead to positive beliefs about yourself and your life. These positive beliefs will lead to positive habits. And positive habits will lead you to a life of happiness and success.

And that's a wonderful way to live!

So using affirmations for personal growth and self-improvement is simply a matter of repeating positive statements to ourselves over and over again. To make this most effective though, here are some simple guidelines:

1. Make the affirmation positive! Say, “I am happy!” rather than “I am no longer depressed!” Can you see how the first is positive while the second is a double negative statement?

2. The affirmation must be in the present tense. Don't say, “One day I will be happy!” Instead say, “I am happy now!”

3. The affirmation must result in good feelings. The more intense the feelings, the faster you will see a positive change in your life.

I personally find that the easiest way to create affirmations is to first write down my current negative thoughts. I then write the opposite of that thought, ensuring it is positive and in the present tense.

For example if you wrote down “I am feeling sad”, you could replace that with “I am feeling happy. I live a happy and joyful life with complete peace of mind. I constantly attract opportunities for happiness into my life.”

You would then repeat this as much as you could, until your subconscious believes it, and starts reinforcing your new way of life.

Try placing a copy on the wall beside your bathroom mirror, so you see it each morning and evening. Place a copy on an index card which you carry in your pocket, and refer to several times a day.

Partner up with an affirmation buddy. Arrange that every time you see or speak to that person, you will say an affirmation to them. And they’ll say one to you. Imagine how good it would feel to hear someone tell you several times a day, “I love you and I value your friendship so highly. You’re a wonderful person.”

If you’re serious about creating rapid change in your life, consider recording yourself saying the affirmation over and over onto a tape or MP3 player, and then listen to this whenever you have a chance. While getting ready for work, while driving to work, during your lunch break, driving home, and while relaxing in the evening. (Don’t do it while your partner is trying to talk to you though. I learnt that one the hard way!)

Commit to this for the next 90 days, and see the changes it makes in your life. I promise you it is incredibly powerful. Remember though, that this is simply one tool in your happiness tool-kit. Don’t neglect your other tools. Continue with your Gratitude Journal, your meditation, your EFT practice, or whatever else you enjoy. And ensure you use your affirmation correctly. Like any tool, if you use it correctly you’ll get great results. If you use it incorrectly, you’ll get poor results. So keep up the repetition until it is subconscious! Repeat the statements with intensity, and really feel how great it would feel to have that affirmation manifest in your life right now.

So, get started now. Create some positive happy affirmations for changing your life.

“I am a happy and cheerful person.”

“I attract joy into my life, all day long.”

“I am deserving of love, and I love myself unconditionally.”

“I accept my body as it is, with gratitude and love. I am a beautiful person.”

“I am a caring and compassionate person.”

“I attract only good people into my life, and build relationships based on mutual respect and love, for the betterment of all concerned.”

Whatever it is, go for it. Enjoy the process! It can be great fun.
